There are following methods being used. Now a days:-
Mechnical Control:- It is an effective approach. It includes first make your premises rat proof by plugging off all holes, cavities & put wire mesh so that rats entry should be banned & some traps are also used to arrest these rats. But this method is very old & it does not control Bandicoot ( Ghoos) etc. and after some days rats identify those traps & avoid them. Thus results are very slow. It is safe method.
Ultra sonic sounds:- Ultrasonic ( 719 k hz ) devices have been designed to repel rodents in confirmed areas like godowns such devices produces only partial & temporary repellency in wild rodents. It is probably because ultrasounds are uni – directional & can not penetrate solid media & rodents hide behind gunny sack, partitions or other solid media. Thus such devices have not proven their utility.
Glue Traps:- Glue coated boards placed under almirah racks etc. where movement of rats are expected as rats walk on the boards they are cought by Glue. This method is adopted generally in computer centres or wherever false cealing is there. Because in case of false ceeling rat may die above ceiling & it is very difficult to find out remove its dead body from false ceeling.
Precautions
These boards are advised and used only in closed areas free from dust.
It is one of the most safe methods but it does not give much better results because stikness of glue depends on the temprature & dust setting on boards. It is costly method.
